Notable tracks:
#3 – Giant Steps – Composed by John Coltrane. This dynamic, yet smooth track, features Marcelo Martins on tenor sax, in solo and tenor-piano combo, with Adolfo. There’s percussive playfulness, thanks to Rafael Barata, along with Jorge Helder’s rich bass riff, that’s accompanied by Adolfo’s chordal conversation.
#4 – Con Alma – Composed by Dizzy Gillespie. Both Leo Amuedo’s electric and Claudio Spiewak’s acoustic guitars join in on this breezy track, adding tenor sax flourishes. A buoyant Bossa beat ensues with piano, drums, and some exotic percussion, like dancing on a summer’s night.
#5 – Misturando – Composed by Antonio Adolfo. Clearly this track, composed by Adolfo, is mostly a warm splash of sparkling piano. Guitars and drums add clarity and verve, but Adolfo takes the spotlight and transports us to Rio.
#9 – Crystal Science – Composed by Chick Corea and Neville Potter. This is one of my favorite tracks with Martins’ sultry, sensual flute, evoking a tonal image of a truly South of the Border cocktail party. In fact, this Antonio Adolfo CD would be a great addition to any party, with its vibrant spirit.
